About Digg

Kevin Rose, founder of Digg started an all user submitted content site where members can "digg" any story, video, or pic and get it voted to the front of the site.

Description of user contribution system

Members can either submit content or "digg it" from other sites and based on the popularity of it, the number of diggs will push it to the top of the list. The content is often crass, irrelevant, humorous, offensive and so on.. but it keeps the 30 million viewers coming back each month...

Here is the link on exactly how it works. (much better than I can explain it.)

Benefits for the users

If the article that you submitted receives a large amount of diggs, Kevin and his cohost will talk about the story on their partner site digg nation which is an internet tv station where the two drink beer and hilight all the top digg stories for that week.

Benefits for the creators of the system

The system is completely run by its members. NO moderation. Inc. Magazine, in their November 2008 issue, wrote a feature on them saying that the website has 30 million visitors a month. Kevin is also has the second biggest twitter base behind Obama with 64,000 Twitter followers
