This is one part of the UCS taxonomy chart with examples of UCS's that aggregate people's personal profile and social connections.

Facebook

Founded in 2004, facebook is one of the largest social networking sites. Depending on who you believe, it has gone from dorm room computing to $15 billion valuation in that time.

FriendFeed

This web service lets you aggregate all your feeds and your friend's feeds (status updates, photos, blog posts, favorite videos, etc.)

Glassdoor

Allows users to discover in-depth information about a company's salary, benefits, and culture.

LinkedIn

Known as the professional social network (as compared to the more informal facebook and MySpace).

MySpace

One of the most popular social networking sites, it was founded in 2003. An early differentiator was the inclusion of music on the site. It's parent company was bought by Rupert Murdoch's News Corp for $580 million in 2005

Second Life

Second Life is a virtual world, where other users create rich environments and supply goods and services

twitter

People use twitter to send short (140 characters or less) updates via web, mobile, IM, or client app, often answering the question, "What are you doing?"

Being Girl

A Proctor & Gamble website delivers accurate, complete, and confidential information to teenage girls who are reluctant to ask for it. P&G advertises its relevant health and beauty products alongside content.

In the Motherhood

In a similar vein to BeingGirl, Unilever’s In The Motherhood provides a forum where mothers can share stories about motherhood.  The site is sponsored by Unilever’s Suave, Sprint and Mindshare Entertainment and hosts advertisements for Suave.
